The world is crazy sometimes. Like gas prices that go up and down like a yo-yo, or the sport of skijoring.
Have crazy things happened to you lately? Are you feeling stuck or overwhelmed by this crazy world and need a bit of clarity on your next move? Sometimes, it’s hard to recognize when it’s time for a change in your life. Thankfully there is a way to help you figure out what, when, where, why, how, and if you’ll change.
Here are some tips on how to identify when it’s time to shake up your routine and make changes.
If You’re Feeling Uninspired by Your Current Situation
If life feels unfulfilling, it’s a good sign that it’s time for change. When you’re feeling apathetic or dreading the day-to-day, it might signify that it’s time to switch things up and try something new. It might also help to talk to a therapist to ensure you’re not suffering from depression or another mental illness that makes it hard for you to enjoy anything, even something that you used to like doing. There’s no shame in going to a doctor for your mental health, any more than it’s shameful to go when your body is sick.
You’re Not Progressing towards Your Goals
Are you moving toward the goals you have for yourself? If you’re stuck in the same position for an extended time, it may be a sign that it’s time to make some changes to your life and try new things. For example, are you struggling to reach your set financial goals? If so, take a moment to consider why this is. Did you fail to take the steps you planned, or did you fail to plan?
You’re Constantly Experiencing Negative Emotions
If you’re feeling consistently negative, it may mean that you need change. Consider ways to make your life more positive, such as volunteering, engaging with hobbies you enjoy, or spending time with good friends. (Again, seeing a therapist for extra support might be a good idea if you’re really stuck.} What is at the root of your emotions? Writing down your feelings in a journal is immensely beneficial, helping you identify and understand what is causing them.
You Feel the Constant Urge to Take Risks
If you are regularly feeling the urge to do things that are risky, it may signify that it’s time to switch things up and change. Taking calculated risks is an excellent means to learn and grow, so don’t be afraid to take the plunge and make a change. But don’t take chances at the spur of the moment – instead, remember the “calculated” part.
You’re Feeling Stifled by Your Current Environment
You may need to switch things up if you feel like you’ve hit a wall in your current environment. Consider ways to shake things up – whether it’s taking a vacation, changing jobs, improving your relationships, or doing something outside your comfort zone.
Making a change in life is intimidating, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. When you recognize that it’s time for a change, take steps towards a more fulfilling life by setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) goals, scheduling the actions you need to take, and then doing it.
The world might be crazy, but overall, I still believe there are people to be inspired by, people who have been brave enough to change. Like yesterday, I read this article about “The 23 Most Inspiring People Alive” and it motivated me to do a check-in with myself to see if I need to make any changes. Check-in with yourself and make sure that you’re doing all you can to live your best life!
